At
Cg International, we believe there are a lot of similarities between
soldiers and entrepreneurs. Both perceive risk differently than most
people and realise that informed risk is a way to grasp an
opportunity. Both use tactics and strategy and know the difference
between them.
There are some major differences as well. They work in different battlefields, so for soldiers changing from the battlefield to the business field is one transition that needs to be done. Soldiers work in a command & control structure and orders are given and need to be carried out. The ability to adapt is key in completing that mission, and that lends itself to entrepreneurship as well. As an entrepreneur, the command and control structure is radically different, they are the boss, with many constituent interested parties, from investors to customers.
Our program starts with the similarities of tactics and strategy and builds on the military training they have had. The program builds on the ability to adapt on the go, to be able to make decisions. We then add a component on attitudes and characteristics, building adaptive skills and specific knowledge. A focus on leadership styles and planning is added, and al the while this is done in an experiential framework.
The object of the program is to help the ex combatant become an entrepreneur, build a business, and lead a meaningful rewarding life. Success can be measured in this program in the outcomes of a job, a business, or a return to training and also in the more social area of a good re entry to civilian life.
